How often should my garage door be serviced?

How long does a door opener last?
The average life span of a door opener can vary from 10 to 20 years depending on the model and usage. If the door and door opener are maintained properly, some openers will last more than 25 years.
My door makes a lot of noise. Should I be concerned?
In most cases the squeaky noise is caused when older spring coils rub against one another. This isn’t a safety concern and can be corrected with a spray on lubricant or by running a thin bead of motor oil across the top of each spring. If that doesn’t quiet the door, then it is best to error on the side of caution and call our service department for service and adjustment of your door.
Can I do work on my garage door?
Some work is okay—such as simple lubrication or tightening of a hinge (if you know what you’re doing). But other work is best left to the pros. For example, you should never attempt to adjust or remove the door’s springs, cables or bottom fixtures. These items are under a lot of tension, and attempting any work on them could result in serious injury or death.
